Continuous Professional Development

At WSE our brilliant staff are our biggest asset!  We want to retain and develop all our staff in all roles across the Magna Learning Partnership.  At WSE we have a number of strands to professional development, a selection are outlined below.

Early Career Development

Early Career Development encompasses our ITT (initial teacher training) students and NQTs (newly qualified teachers) and RQTs (recently qualified teachers).  We work closely with our partners to provide a comprehensive support package including:

  • Professional Themes Programme
  • One to one mentoring
  • Teaching and learning CPD programme centred around WSE’s mantra: Expert teaching; Reflective practice

“Support for NQTs is so good at WSE!”  Harriet Clark, Newly Qualified Teacher – English

Teachers’ Development

For teachers at all levels of expertise and at all points in their career development, professional development at WSE is always ongoing.  We live the Teaching and Learning mantra of Expert teaching; Reflective practice, through a variety of development opportunities.

Leadership and Management

We offer staff across the organisation the opportunity to enrol onto our bespoke Multi-Academy Trust-wide Middle and Aspirant Middle Leader Programme. This year-long programme includes working with a psychologist to complete and receive feedback from a 360 degree review and undergo a Myers Briggs Type Indicator psychometric assessment. Modules in the programme address: personal effectiveness in terms of time management and prioritisation, managing highly effective meetings, performance management, assertiveness, career management, influencing and negotiating, delegation and leading a department whilst planning over an extended time period.

What staff say about the Middle Leader Programme:

“It has been really insightful and useful to work with a range of colleagues I would have not worked with before.  It was interesting to get feedback from others to identify strengths and weaknesses I was not aware of and how my personality type can affect working relationships.”

“This programme will be so useful for when I start a role as Head of Department.”

“I felt comfortable to express my views within the group. The course was great.”
