Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

We are committed to working together with all members of our school community and believe in providing every possible opportunity to develop the full potential of all our students. The SEND team aim to ensure that students with SEND are able to learn and progress, despite any challenges they might face. Getting to know the student’s strengths and areas of need is integral to the work we do. We work closely with tutors, teachers, parents/carers and the students themselves to develop an understanding of the young person and how best to support them.

All students have the right to a broad and balanced curriculum including extra-curricular activities, to feel valued and have their self-esteem promoted.

The people to contact this year with regard to any SEND queries are:

Sharon rideoutMs S Rideout – SENDCo (Special Educational Needs and Disability Co-ordinator)

Mrs L Salisbury – SEND Governor

We also employ 11 teaching assistants (TAs) who specialise in identified curriculum areas and whose work is primarily in the classroom, working alongside the class teacher in the delivery of teaching and learning. They also deliver the interventions as outlined in the SEND information and policy (put in the link here) by our SENDCo. and mentor students who require a more in depth level of monitoring.

In addition to this, we work closely with our Pastoral Support Team, managed by Mrs L Milner.
