Student Voice

Listening to our students helps us improve our community, strengthen relationships, and ensure that decisions reflect the needs and experiences of those who know the school best – our students.

By working together, students and staff can make meaningful improvements to learning, events, and everyday school life. This is The Wyvern Way.

How It Works

The Student Council

The Student Council meets once a month and is open to all students within each year group. Staff help to guide discussions, but students are encouraged to bring forward their own ideas and suggestions. Year 11 Prefects support the organisation and running of council meetings.

The Student Council aims to:

  • Discuss issues raised by students
  • Propose improvements and new ideas
  • Work collaboratively with the school to make positive changes

The Senate

  • Each year group elects two student representatives to represent their peers
  • These representatives sit together on a multi-year council called the Senate in the last week of the month
  • Representatives gather feedback from their year group and bring it to meetings
  • The Senate is chaired by the Head Boy and Head Girl, ensuring Student Voice is fronted by our own Student Leadership

Sharing Outcomes

  • After each meeting, the Head Boy and Head Girl present the meeting notes to the Headteacher
  • A summary message is then recorded and shared with all students during tutor time, so everyone is aware of what has been discussed and agreed
