At Wyvern St Edmund's, we ensure that all students are challenged and supported to be the best that they can be.

Through our Raising Standards Plan, every student across Years 7 to 11 receives the very best in teaching, grouping and wider support — so that every young person leaves us with the qualifications, skills and confidence for their desired next step in life.

The right student, in front of the right teacher

In Key Stage 3, our ability grouping model is deliberate and graduated, increasing in structure as students’ progress through the school.

In Year 7, setting is introduced in a small number of subjects, allowing students to settle into secondary school whilst ensuring teaching is targeted from the outset. By Year 8, the number of subjects taught in sets increases, reflecting our growing knowledge of each student's strengths and progress. In Year 9, students are both set in core and practical subjects and streamed across a wider range of subjects — our most structured model, designed to prepare students for the demands of GCSE.

Groupings across all three-year groups are dynamic, reviewed twice a year following formal mid-year and end-of-year examinations, so that every student is always placed where they will make the most progress.

In Key Stage 4, setting continues across Years 10 and 11, ensuring students benefit from targeted teaching, structured intervention and the highest expectations at every stage of their GCSE journey.

Raising standards is led from the front by two dedicated Raising Standards Leads — specialist leaders with a single focus: ensuring every student achieves their very best.
